Doing research on the company through their contract with iRobot, I found something that stuck out to me, the army has connected itself to two of the most innovative companies in the field of robotics in the past decade or two. One example being iRobot of course from another post, and the other being their relationship with Lockheed Martin. I've already talked about several products that iRobot has constructed to preserve life, but there is a good reason Lockheed Martin is teamed with the Army. They introduced the first autonomous vehicles to the military and were able to take human targets out of transportation convoys. Over the course of the war in the Middle-East, after 9/11, changes in technology have not only provided advantages for our military but also our enemies. With this progression of modernization in America, many countries who are at the top in terms of technology are so powerful that they can afford to maintain or lose progress in that market and make mistakes. Most countries don't have such a luxury, it should be interesting to see the Global impact Robotics has on the market.
The Army appears to be preparing themselves for for this transition period in time, many waiting to see Bill Gates prediction come true. He stated that his belief was that advanced robotics is the next industry to modernize itself significantly and have an affect comparable to the internet on society. One of his most famous published predictions as well, was his warning about a start up company by the name of Google about 15 years ago.
