A great example of a company that has capitalized on the advanced robotic market is a company by the name of iRobot. You might know them from making a device called the Roomba, or autonomous vacuum. Since their development of the Roomba they have come to enter a contract with the army developing several different ground roaming devices with multiple capabilities.

The most important thing about these robots is the fact that they help in the prevention of severe injury and are an essential contributing factor in saving lives. With these bots, you can defuse bombs with the same capabilities as a human. These bots also provide the ability to visually map out areas ahead of troops. Those are just a few of the many capabilities their bots possess, time and technology will continue to grow operating capabilities and cohesiveness, and not maintaining that to just design cohesiveness, but also internal software and control systems.
I know remote control toy tanks might not be appealing to everyone, but in iRobots Contract with the Army they have been payed nearly $100 million since 2011. Not sure if anyone else recalls, but doesn't that design remind you of something out of a "kinect" or "lego" box?
